SafeTrade is excited to welcome Bitcoin BIP110, a Bitcoin-derived Proof-of-Work blockchain that emerged from the BIP-110 enforcement split and subsequently transitioned from SHA-256d to BLAKE2b Proof-of-Work.
Bitcoin BIP110 shares Bitcoin's blockchain history through block 961,631, with the two networks diverging at block 961,632 when nodes enforcing BIP-110 rejected a non-signaling Bitcoin block and accepted a competing signaling block. The resulting branch initially continued using SHA-256d, but limited mining participation resulted in very slow block production. The network subsequently introduced a separate hard fork that changed Proof-of-Work to BLAKE2b at block 961,640, introducing a new 164-byte version-2 block header and establishing a separate mining environment.
What Makes It Different?
Bitcoin BIP110 combines Bitcoin's inherited blockchain history and UTXO set with a different consensus and mining design. The network retains Bitcoin's 21 million maximum supply while operating as an independent Proof-of-Work chain. Its transition to BLAKE2b means that existing SHA-256d Bitcoin miners cannot produce valid blocks on the network, creating a distinct mining ecosystem.
Built around this architecture, Bitcoin BIP110 features:
- Proof-of-Work using BLAKE2b
- Bitcoin-derived blockchain history through block 961,631
- Chain divergence beginning at block 961,632
- A new 164-byte version-2 block header
- Expanded nonce space and selectable ASIC profiles
- Block height and transaction-count commitments within the header
- Header architecture designed with future merge-mining support in mind
- 21 million maximum coin supply
- Native UTXO-based Proof-of-Work architecture
- Optional SIGHASH_UNIFIED signature mode providing chain-specific replay protection
- Temporary reduced-data consensus restrictions
- A temporary 800 kWU block-weight limit
- First BLAKE2b mainnet block at 961,640
- First production mainnet release through Bitcoin Knots 29.4.1.knots20260508
Bitcoin BIP110 represents a distinct approach to continuing Bitcoin's blockchain history through an independent consensus and mining environment. Rather than beginning with a new genesis block, the network inherited Bitcoin's blockchain history and UTXO set through the fork point before establishing its own Proof-of-Work algorithm and consensus rules. The transition from SHA-256d to BLAKE2b further separates the network's mining security from Bitcoin's established SHA-256d infrastructure while preserving the inherited monetary history.
